Let Life be your Guru….

“Everyone is my teacher. Some I seek. Some I subconsciously attract. Often I learn simply by observing others. Some may be completely unaware that I’m learning from them, yet I bow deeply in gratitude.” ― Eric Allen

‘Guru’ is translated as ‘teacher’ – someone who is our inspiration and guidance.

When we begin to observe our lives, we see everybody around us – whether a family member, friend, colleague or stranger – can be our Guru. And beyond that, all the occurrences in our life – things that happen to us – also act as our Guru, our teacher.

Every situation in life wants to teach us something. But when we are not open to the teaching, or we ignore or aren’t able to see/ hear the message, it will keep repeating until finally we are able to learn the lesson presented. Generally our ego stands in the way of our openness….but every situation which happens to us is simply there to wake us up, give us opportunity to see what is growing within us, and to practice gratitude.

We tend to be grateful when positive things happen to us. But we should be grateful also in any unpleasant moment of our life. Any time we are rejected, frustrated, or otherwise feel disempowered, we get great chance to redirect and find new balance.

Ask yourself:

Am I able to stay open and listen to the teaching Life is offering me?

What is Life teaching me right now?

How do I connect to my inner teacher/higher self to accept Life and learning with ease and grace?

One thing is to practice with the body – the dense physical anchor of your soul. Physical practice combined with internal work – meditation, mindfulness, awareness – is a great recipe for meeting the Guru. On the mat or the meditation pillow, we can see and honour what Life is teaching us.
