According to Chinese Medicine the Fire element correlates with Summer and is about our emotions, courage and wisdom. It is also called sometimes called the element of ‘heartmind’ because the heart is considered closely related to our mental and emotional life at this time. Our hearts expand at this time of year, like a chalice in the centre of our bodies holding the fire of our spirit. (The Tao philosopher Lao Tsu said that it is the emptiness of the chalice, the cup, that renders it useful. He said that the emptiness at the centre of our heart is the space where our spirit/consciousness resides.)
This workshop will focus on Yin Yoga poses which stimulate flow of the Qi in the Heart, Small Intestine, Pericardium and Triple Heater and return harmony to out-of-balance and excessive emotions. We will discuss how to keep the Fire element harmonised, and a printed handout will be provided.
Led by Katri you will
- understand the relevant Yin-Yang meridians which work to balance the emotions and physical conditions associated with the particular season, element, and organs;
- begin to understand the principles of TCM and how applying those principles to healthy living, through the practice of Yin Yoga, can improve your health and well-being in ways that are both subtle and dramatic;
- see how you can experience better sleep, stronger resistance to colds and flu, heightened energy and boosted mood, and better physical and mental flexibility resulting from the combination of Yin Yoga and TCM.
